Little Daily Creative Rituals

Over the years, or perhaps since I was born, I have loved having little daily creative rituals to enhance my happiness, lower my blood pressure, and help me cultivate a greater love for the mysteries, pleasures and complexities of life on Earth.  Here are just a few of my favorites.

The Walking/Hiking Ritual

I find daily walks, either at the local nature center, or in the neighborhood or at a favorite hiking trail to be an integral part of living creatively.  So much so, I have woven them into my creative process of novel writing.  Basically, I do a quick edit on my previous day's writing then put it down and go for walk.  By the time I get back to the writing desk, problems have been solved and my muse is chomping at the bit to show me what happens next in the story!  It's a wonderful tool for staving off writers block!

The Coffee Ritual

Ah, a hot (or cold) cup of coffee made with love, attention and good quality ingredients.  My ritual shifts and changes with the seasons, but it is a wonderful way to greet the day with a bit of joy, beauty and reverence.  After all, it's a tiny bean from a tree that gives us so much gumption!

Morning Pages á la The Artists Way

Daily morning pages literally changed my life.  I find such peace and inspiration in this morning ritual and I choose do write my three pages on paper with ink.  There is something about the feeling of the ink gliding across paper that makes the simple act of a sloppy purge, dare I say, artful!

Making beautiful food.

Whether it's a simple breakfast, a loaf of bread from scratch, or a homemade lemon merangue pie, there is nothing like making beautiful food to get me in touch with my creative feminine power and bring me a sense of gratitude and peace.  Luckily, we eat at least two meals a day so there is always an opportunity to bring that healing creative food energy into our lives each day.
